URGENT NOTICE: IRS ANNOUNCES DELAYED 1040 FILING SEASON

Due to the changes made by the 2010 Tax Relief Act the IRS has announced that certain 2010 individual tax returns will not be accepted until mid-to late February 2011.  Returns that include the following items will not be accepted before that time period as the IRS needs to update forms and reprogram its computer systems:

  • Itemized Deductions (Schedule A).
  • Higher Education Tuition and Fees Deduction (Form 8917).
  • $250 deduction for school teacher expenses.
  • Casualty and theft losses (Form 4686).

Other returns may be delayed due to changes made by the Small Business and Jobs Creation act that passed in late September.  The more popular forms affected by the bill are:

  • General Business Credit (Form 3800).
  • First-Time Homebuyer Credit and Repayment of Credit (Form 5405).

If you have questions about your return and whether your filing may be delayed, simply complete the information below and one of our tax professionals will contact you.
